Interim CEO Appointment

SSF and sportscotland have announced they are strengthening their partnership after sportscotland Lead Manager, Dougie Millen was appointed as interim CEO of SSF while Kirsty McNab goes on maternity leave.

SSF use the power of sport and physical activity to engage with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in communities across Scotland and work to empower them to be confident, healthy and happy. With a focus on at-risk communities, SSF initiatives are designed to encourage physical and mental wellbeing and integration.

SSF and sportscotland have been working together since the charity’s inception 20 years ago, using sport to help change the lives of young people across the country. The appointment is part of a new four-year partnership agreement between the organisations which will allow for the sharing of expertise and resources. Both organisations will contribute to wider outcomes and together will continue developing people, strengthening communities and helping change lives through sport.

Dougie brings a wealth of experience in the sporting sector having previously worked in a variety of  community based roles, his strong relationships with sport governing bodies and local authorities will help SSF to continue to support as many young people as possible. Dougie will take up the role for a period of six months while still retaining his role at sportscotland two days a week.

Dougie Millen said: “I’m very proud to have the opportunity to work with an organisation like Scottish Sports Futures, the work they do has proved to be invaluable to so many young people across Scotland.

Chief Executive of sportscotland, Stewart Harris, said: “SSF have built up incredible knowledge and expertise over the years and contribute an incredible amount to the sporting system. This partnership will allow both organisations to learn from each other and deliver the benefits of sport to young people across Scotland.”

SSF CEO, Kirsty McNab, said: “Right now it’s so important to understand the big picture in Scotland and how we can work together to compliment and add value in genuine collaboration with our partners.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with sportscotland and all associated networks and organisations together to achieve common objectives of ensuring physical activity and sport is widely available to all young people. We will as always be taking a youth work, person-centred approach to ensure that we can support young people who need help the most.”
