Scottish Sports Futures is celebrating our 20th anniversary of supporting disadvantaged young people through sport by releasing our Annual Report and securing new funding from the Scottish Government’s Cashback for Communities fund.
Thanks to CashBack investment, last year we supported 5,320 young people in Scotland most at risk, including 3,213 in Glasgow.
We are delighted to have received a further three-years funding from the Cashback Communities Fund, a Scottish Government programme which uses money seized from criminals under the proceeds of crime legislation and invests them in community initiatives that support young people.
Dougie Millen, Interim SSF CEO said, “We are incredibly proud to have spent the past 20 years supporting some of Scotland’s most amazing young people who continue to inspire us each day.
“Inequality is extremely challenging, even more so now, but with support and understanding young people can positively change attitudes and behaviours. To see that change and the positive contribution they go on to give back to their local communities is just the best feeling ever. It is not just young people, we also work with families, often in situations where other organisations have given up.
“Every day I am amazed by the young peoples’ stories and where a change of confidence can take them. Such achievement is only made possible by the continued support we receive, and we are very grateful to the ongoing investment from the CashBack for Communities Fund.”
Humza Yousaf, Cabinet Secretary for Justice, added, “The work of Scottish Sports Futures illustrates exactly what the CashBack for Communities Fund stands for and its impact is genuinely life changing.”
“The combined approach of sport and youth work is incredibly successful, providing life-changing opportunities where other routes have failed. More than ever vulnerable young people need our help and I am delighted that we are able to provide further funding to support this important work.”
Scottish Sports Futures delivers programmes across Scotland, including in Glasgow, Fife, North Ayrshire, North and South Lanarkshire, Perth and Kinross, and Stirling.
