SSF Chance:2:Be programme works with young people aged 15 who have a passion for sport and physical activity, and are not engaging within education and/or employment.
Over the past year the SSF Chance:2:Be programme has been put on hold due to COVID, with constant changes in tiers and various lockdowns throughout the past 12 months, planning for an effective, engaging and well attending programme has been integral to our approach to relaunching the SSF Chance:2:Be programme. With restrictions now easing in Glasgow, we have now launched 2 SSF Chance:2:Be programmes.
After a month of planning, working with local partners and schools, the 9th SSF Chance:2:Be programme was launched on the 24th May 2021 within the East End of Glasgow. Working with 4 local schools and Glasgow Kelvin College, we have recruited 12 young people onto the 16-week programme which will run over the summer months.
Our SSF Youth Development Coordinators met with all 12 young people at a pre-programme consultation, ensuring the young people knew what to expect and also to gain a better understanding for the specific needs of each of the young people. This allowed us to fully understand the needs, challenges and desires of the young people attending which in turn influences the programme plan.
The programme is designed to allow young people to take part in physical activity and issue-based youth work, whilst also gaining relevant, new experiences, employment opportunities, confidence, team work and training and accreditation.
