On the 17th May 2021, the Shell Twilight Dalmarnock session was relaunched in the Dalmarnock community. The Shell Twilight is a diversionary, multisport programme which is delivered in communities most affected by crime, poverty, and anti-social behaviour across Scotland. As such, the programmes are inclusive and targeted at those most at risk and/or involved in anti-social behaviour.
We work with local partners to address issues in the community and provide a safe place for young people to be active, with the addition of youth work workshops. Prior to the relaunch of the Dalmarnock session, SSF worked with local partners within the community to promote the session through social media and flyer drops within the community. This meant partnership working with Thriving Places, PEEK and Baltic Street Adventure Playground to promote the sessions and get as many young people along to the session as possible.
Since the relaunch, we have been recruiting for young people aged 11+ and now have a consistent number of participants attending the session on a weekly basis. The young people take part in football, basketball, tennis, and other fun multisport games that get them physically active, while also working on their social communication and teamwork skills. Moreover, all Shell Twilight sessions are focused on the wellbeing of the participants. To help us achieve this, we provide the young people with healthy nutritional food during the session. The young people get a selection of fruit and water at every session.
In the coming weeks, SSF aims to work with local partners within Dalmarnock and the surrounding areas to raise awareness of the session. For further information please contact Ahmed@ssf.org.uk.
