SSF Glasgow Team Update July 2022

SSF Chance:2:Be programme is designed to work with young people aged 15+. The programme works with young people who have an interest in sport and physical activity, who are not engaging within education or employment. In Glasgow we have three SSF Chance:2:Be programme’s in both community and in school settings.

In April we brought all the young people across three programmes together to celebrate their achievements with a trip to Auchengillan Outdoor centre. During their time there they took part in various sports and activities including axe throwing, canoeing, archery and rock climbing.

The idea was to provide them with an opportunity to take part in new activities and be out of their comfort zone. As a result, we seek to encourage a positive change in young people’s attitudes and behaviour that enables them to recognise and fulfil their potential.

On the day, one young person told us they would not do the water sports and their confidence was really low. They were determined they were not going in the water and didn’t bring a change of clothes… by the end of the day when we got to the water to take part in canoeing, he loved it so much that he ended up jumping in!

“I actually loved that, it was so relaxing, when can we go back to do water sports?”

“It was amazing to see **** take part in all the sessions, his confidence has increased massively over the programme but to see that smile on his face when he went in the water was just so nice”
