SSF programmes are now well under way for our East Central Team in Fife!
Through the summer holidays, the team continued to develop existing programmes in Lochgelly, whilst also receiving additional funding to launch a new Shell Twilight programme in partnership with Fife Active Schools, as well as launching our first ever SSF Chance:2:Be programme out with the Glasgow local authority!
Shell Twilight: Lochgelly
Working in close partnership with Fife Active Schools, our East Central team received additional funding through the Fife Council Be Active fund to launch a new summer taster Shell Twilight programme in Lochgelly.
The programme provided a platform to showcase the weekly CashBack For Communities funded programme which runs on Thursday evenings in the Lochgelly area. The summer taster programme was consistently well attended by local young people and was seen as a great opportunity to try new sports and get an insight into what the main programme is like.
Throughout this programme, lead Shell Twilight Coach, Rhona Wilson, carried out an impact assessment to understand what effects the programme has had on our regular attending young people, this report will be published shortly.
“It was important to fully understand and capture the impact which the programme was having on our local young people. Having attended every session, I can see the positive changes from the young people attending; small reinforcements from our staff team have resulted in some brilliant changes including increased confidence, trying new activities and improving their social networks within the area.”

SSF Chance:2:Be: Lochgelly
As well as this, the team launched our first ever SSF Chance:2:Be programme outside of Glasgow. The session takes place at the Fife Cycle Park in Lochgelly with young people from Lochgelly High School and Pupil Support Services attending. We are looking forward to seeing how the young people develop over the next 12 weeks!
“Being able to reach more vulnerable young people has been the highlight in launching the SSF Chance:2:Be programme in Lochgelly. Making new connections and partnerships in the local area to enhance the programme and the experiences for the young people has been great to be a part of.I’m really proud and looking forward to seeing the difference the programme makes to the lives of the local young people over the next 12 weeks."
